3-2024 Take your GPG key with you.......

I asked LG a question about GPG. Is there a neat way to export and save my GPG/PGP secret key (private key) on a USB stick ? I have to do this, since I am often changing my machines (most of which are given on loan by my employers). The secret key goes away with the machine, and I am obliged to generate a new key pair each time. I did a Google search and did not succeed. I know I can save/export my public key, but GPG/PGP refuse to let me use a copy of my secret key.

We should remember to say, “Astaghfir’Allah” ( I seek forgiveness from Allah ) when we lose our tempers or become weak, and most importantly, “Allahu Akbar” ( God is great ) when we are faced with the challenges of life. "Bismillah" ("Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem") before starting any work.

8/2012 Climbing up Mt. Everest without ever going there

Want to take a look at Mt. Everest ? Do not have the courage, strength or money, to take up a trekking tour of Himalayas ? A bunch of Italian scientists have found a novel way to help you. They have set up a web cam at a vantage point on Kala Pathar, at an altitude of 5,675 metres (18,619 ft), from where you get a panorama of the big hills. The webcam captures video footage of the summit of Mount Everest[1] and is the highest webcam in the world. It was installed by Italian scientists as part of the Everest Share 2011 research project by the Nepalese Ev-K2-CNR team, which is intended to gather information regarding climate change by working together with the Everest weather station. The camera is an M12-type model made by the German-based company Mobotix. It is powered by solar cells and operates from 6am to 6pm local time[1] (UTC +5:45). It is capable of operating at temperatures as low as −30 °C (−22 °F) and broadcasts its live high definition video worldwide via the Internet. It is expected to work in conjunction with the Everest weather station – located at an altitude of 8,000 m (26,250 ft) on Mount Everest – to provide scientists with details regarding climate change. The captured video is transmitted wirelessly to the Ev-K2-CNR Pyramid Laboratory/Observatory, located on the slopes of Mount Everest at an altitude of 5,050 m (16,568 ft). The URL of the webcam is ::

7 / 2012 The Srilankan Tragedy

I saw recently a video film about the Sri Lankan civil war "The killing fields" made by Channel 4. It was a pathetic and desperate evidence of how cruel, man can be, in times of war. No one supports or applauds the Governmentof Sri Lanka for what is reported in this (and other video documentaries). YES it was an inhuman and most uncivilised act. But, let us look at the whole picture. For 26 years , one man, made a mess of a serene and peaceful country. He used his own tribe (Tamil speaking SriLankans), as ammunition against the very country he lived in. He fought like a coward, hiding behind women and children. The list of assasinations and murders he organised, is given in wikipedia ::

Topping this list is the Prime Minister of my country.

He used innocent civilans, women and children, as a human shield, knowing fully well the consequences of his cowardly and reckless act.

He held his own people hostage in their own homeland

Flushing him out of his hideout, needed some ruthless action. Unfortunately, many innocent lives were lost in a cruel and painful way.

If Channel 4 has any sense of fairplay, and honesty, it should also make public, video footage of all that happened in the 26 years of insane civil war, organised by an insane man.

Here is a lesson for my own country where some selfish and greedy politicians are claiming fame and power, based on their quest for "greater autonomy and independence". Hope my Government, run by equally greedy and selfish politicians, will have the courage to give these separatists, the treatment which SriLanka gave to their terrorist separatist V Prabhakaran.

2/2012 India does it !

The Year 2012 starts with some bright news. For a whole year we have not seen a single case of polio in India. Thanks to the efforts of everyone concerned, polio is on the way out from India. Reason to rejoice, time to celebrate. Till recently India was endemically affcted by the polio virus. Now, our children and grand children will enjoy a life of polio free good health. Proud to be an Indian. partha

1 / 2012 The Year that was 2011

I closed 2011 with 25 entries in this blog, and 113 entries in my "Professor's blog". Quite an effort that was. Of course the readership and feedback was as low and dumb as usual.Never mind, I will keep talking, I mean blogging.

Reminds me of an experience I had about my course on cryptography which I did in Kathmandu. I remember having informed a lot of people about this course. All of them are "very successful" computer professionals. All I got as feedback was about how lovely Nepal is and what were the tourist spots there. None of these so-called professionals had any idea about cryptography, or had any suggestion of any academic/scientific value. I am ashamed to notice the low intellectual level of these colleagues.

There is still a lot to do. I will try my best.

A suggestion to Mr. Anna Hazare

Why do you want to starve and torture yourself to get the country to accept the Jan Lokpal Bill which you propose ? Have you not learnt anything ins all theses years ? There is an easy and proven way to get things done in India, just bribe the concerned persons. Remember the episode when our MPs were bribed with crores of Rupees, just a few years ago ? Why not try bribing the MPs again ? They are waiting. It is easy and an accepted procedure.

Muslims in western India, at Solapur exactly, lining up to drop their babies from a tower with a height of 15 meters.This ritual has been done for over 500 years, and believed to make their child grow healthy and strong.

Torakichi Akita

Met an amazing person : Mr. Torakichi Akita (Akita, for friends) in Kathmandu, today. Akita is a master practitioner of Sotai and Kai system of Japanese physitherapy. Works magic with his fingers. He also uses his finger for creating another kind of magic. He is a professional pianist. They say, he is the only piano tuner in Nepal. GOD has given this frail old man from Japan, so much of talent. GOD bless him.

Buddham sharanam gachhami

A memorable day with Buddha, at Swaymbhunath Buddha stupa, just outside Kathmandu. Wonder how Buddha manages to live with so many monkeys around (in both the literal and figurative sense), Is that why the world worships Buddha ?

The largest curios and souvenirs bazaaar

At Basantpur, near Durbar Square of Kathmandu, lies the largest curios and souvenirs bazaaar of Kathmandu. The choice is awesome. Prices are moderate. Bargainig is allowed and encouraged. Vendors are friendly. What more does a tourist want ?
